It offers a potential return of 12% pa (not compounded). The plan will "kick-out" on any anniversary that the FTSE100 is at the same level or higher than the initial index level (taken on 20/10/08)

Capital protection? Full repayment of your capital is not guaranteed at maturity. If the FTSE100 falls by more than 50% from its starting level at any time during the 5 year period and the final index level is lower than the starting level, you would lose 1% of your original investment for each 1% that the final index level is lower than the starting index level.

Credit rating of counterparty: AA (according to Standard & Poor's) which is one of the strongest available in the retail space.

Taxation: Available within an Investment ISA (min. £3,600). You can also transfer existing ISAs (and any former PEPs) into this plan. For direct investments, any returns are subject to Capital Gains Tax (CGT) so investors can utilise their CGT allowance in the year of maturity. As an example, if a product with similar terms was to kick out in this tax year, an investor could invest up to £80,000 with no tax to pay on the growth (so long as their CGT allowance hasn't been used elsewhere) as the current allowance is £9,600.
